One new engine births three Outlander L models
Only a year old, BRP has already given its budget-friendly Can-Am Outlander L series a significant upgrade with a new, more powerful engine and three new models.
When it was introduced a year ago, the Outlander L series came in 450cc and 500cc variants. For 2016 the 500 has been replaced by a new 570cc Rotax engine which produces a claimed 48 horsepower – up two horsepower from 2015.
It’s no mistake that BRP went with a 570 engine, as this model will compete directly with the Polaris Sportsman 570. The Outlander 500 actually held a slight horsepower advantage over the Polaris 570, but now it also boasts the same displacement. With a new engine in its arsenal, the always forward-thinking minds at BRP decided to expand the Outlander L family with some new models. The base Outlander L and Outlander L DPS are both still around in 450 and 570 variants, but they are joined by the new for 2016 Outlander L LE 570, Outlander L Mossy Oak Hunting Edition, and Outlander L X mr 570. It’s worth pointing out that the base Outlander L 570 and L 570 DPS are actually $200 less than the L 500 models were. The Outlander L MAX 570 and MAX DPS 570 are also $200 less than the 500 models were in 2015.
Outlander L LE 570
The Outlander L LE 570 was designed to offer consumers key accessories at a value compared to buying the items separately, all while incorporating the items into the factory warranty.
Carried over from the Outlander L 570 DPS are Tri-Mode Dynamic Power Steering and Visco-Lok QE front differential. Tri-Mode DPS features three selectable modes of steering to provide different levels of feedback. Visco-Lok QE is a progressively and automatically locking front differential system that requires no additional buttons to push or levers to hold. Once 4×4 is selected, the system transfers power from the slipping front wheel to the opposing wheel with traction and is not hampered by speed or rev limiters. The QE version progressively transfers the power even quicker.
A number of items help sets the Outlander L 570 LE apart from its brethren. Perhaps the most noticeable are 26-inch Carlisle ACT HD (six-ply) tires wrapped around 12-inch black cast aluminum wheels. Other features include painted while pearl plastic, heavy duty front and rear bumpers, reinforced seat skin designed to improve durability, and handlebar wind deflectors.
At $8,549, the Outlander L LE 570 is an $850 premium over the 570 DPS model.
Outlander L Mossy Oak Hunting Edition
As the name implies, the Outlander L Mossy Oak Hunting Edition ($9,649) is designed for hunters and is the result of an agreement between Can-Am and Mossy Oak. It also features Tri-Mode Dynamic Power Steering and Visco-Lok QE front differential, along with some hunting-specific accessories.

What really makes this vehicle stand out is the Mossy Oak Break-Up Country Camo. BRP says the water-dipped camo finish is more resistant to scratching, mineral deposits and sun fading.
To help hunters haul out big game or get them out of a touch spot, the package features a 3,000-pound WARN winch with roller fairlead and fully sealed motor.
Like the LE model, the Mossy Oak Hunting Edition comes with 26-inch Carlisle ACT HD six-ply tires, which come fitted on 12-inch black steel wheels.
The suspension preload on the Mossy Oak version was increased by one inch.
Other features include a 6.0 Impact gun boot by Kolpin that attaches to an integrated mounting Holder, aluminum skid plates, heavy-duty front and rear bumpers, 37.5-watt RAM Spotlight with rubber-coated double ball and socket system, handlebar wind deflectors, and adjustable LinQ-mounted Gear Grips by Kolpin, which are flexible and protect items from damage. The grips can carry various sized items like bows, fishing poles, axes and more. They also feature 360-degree orientation, a quick-release button and a heavy-duty base.
Outlander L X mr 570
The Outlander L X mr 570 is the most affordable of mud-specific ATV in the industry at $8,549. Like the other L 570 models, it features both DPS and Visco-Lok QE.
Like all Outlander X mr vehicles, the CVT intake and engine intake are located as high as possible on the ATV. They are located in a pod directly in front of the handlebars. Also relocated is the radiator, which was moved to the front rack and wears a protective, vented cover.

A set of raised foot pegs is designed to offer improved comfort while mud riding. The aggressive steel foot pegs, borrowed from the Renegade ATV, reside in a more traditional spot floorboard position.
The Outlander L X mr 570 has its own unique front bumper setup, which holds the large relocated radiator. Also unique to the X mr is a 2.9-gallon water-resistant rear storage compartment located on the rear rack.
This package provides a 500-watt magneto, enough to power accessories like extra lights or heated grips. Stock lighting is provided by dual 35-watt front headlights, with selectable high and low beams, for superb visual clarity.
The Can-Am Outlander L 570 X mr is available in White, Black & Can-Am Red.
