Suspension failure poses potential safety risk
Kymco USA of Spartanburg, SC has recalled 1,350 ATV machines due to suspension failure.
The company’s MXU 500 ATV for the model years 2006 to 2008 are the vehicles in question. The pivot bolts holding the rear suspension onto the frame can become loose, which can cause the rear swing arm to detach from the chassis. This poses a serious potential safety risk as riders can lose control of the vehicle.
Six reports of incidents have been sent to Kymco, including two reports of minor injuries.
The vehicles, which were sold for between US$6,000 and $6,500, can be identified by labels located on each side of the fuel talk which read ‘MXU 500’.
To remedy the problem, Kymco says, consumers should immediately stop using the ATVs and contact an authorized dealer to schedule a free repair. Registered owners have been notified of the recall by mail.
