AMA/ATV Motocross heads to Virginia

Round 4 of the ITP/Moose Racing AMA/ATVA ATV Motocross National Series heads north this weekend to Birch Creek MX in Danville, Va. for the TriangleCycle.com ATV National.

After the first three rounds, the big question is whether anyone can stop Team Suzuki. Dustin Wimmer and Doug Gust have been dominant so far this season, with Wimmer winning the first two rounds and Gust taking top spot in Round 3. Chad Wienen hasn’t picked up a win yet, but he still sits in third in the standings behind his two teammates.

Can-Am’s John Natalie looked primed to stop Suzuki two weeks ago in Kentucky. He took the holeshot in the first moto before a crash sent him to the back of the pack. He came on strong again in the second moto, this time avoiding any trouble and taking the checkered flag. It was the first moto win for the all-new DS450.

Josh Creamer of Kawasaki sits fifth in the standings heading into this weekend’s races. He finished on the podium in the season opener and finished fourth in Kentucky.

Privateer Honda rider Joe Byrd is always dangerous. He won the Pro title for the past two years and won an impressive six of 12 events in 2007. Byrd is the defending champion at Birch Creek MX and is certainly capable of a repeat performance.

French Canadian rider Jasmin Plante helped Yamaha to its best showing of the season in Kentucky, placing second behind Gust.

The TriangleCycle.com ATV National takes place April 26 to 27. Besides hosting the fourth round of the Pro competition, the third round of the Amateur classes will also take place.
