While modern Side-by-Side vehicles have a fairly universal look, it’s nice when artists and designers think a little outside the box. One such examples is the Azaris protype from Ferox Advanced Vehicles Corporation.
Though we are unlikely to see a production model that looks much like this design, the Azaris is pretty spectacular to look at. From the front it almost looks like a convertible car with some extra ground clearance.

Ferox designed the Azaris with the ability to house either a combustion engine or an electric motor linked to a fluid pump.
“The pump interface in Azaris transforms mechanical power into fluid power to drive the in-wheel motors,” Ferox says on its website. “The pump provides smooth and continuous power to the in-wheel motors at a volumetric efficiency of up to 98%.”

Another interesting feature of the Azaris is the six-wheel design. The front wheels are connected to an A-arm design, but things get much more innovative in the rear.
“The rear wheels of Azaris are fitted with a unique rocker suspension that provides the potential to navigate extreme terrain with greater skill,” Ferox says on its website. “The rocker structure has internal channeling for the transfer of fluid power to the connected in-wheel motors.”

Over the years, we’ve seen a lot of unique concepts for off-road vehicles that have never amounted to much beyond a computer screen. What makes this one different is Ferox says the Azaris is its first fully operational prototype.
That being said, there are some things that stick out to us that would prevent the Azaris from reaching your local dealership anytime soon. Chief among them is the apparent lack of a Roll Over Protective Structure (ROPS). If the Azaris aims to compete in the UTV market, a ROPS is mandatory to get approval from governing bodies. In its current form, the seats actually stick up above the top of the vehicle – not ideal in a roll over situation.

However, this is still an exciting first step and while we have no idea if Ferox will ever bring an off-road vehicle to market, we love to see creative people come up with new ideas like this.
