Loss of steering control the culprit
BRP, in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, has recalled 2013 Can-Am Commander models. According to the recall notice, the steering coupling can strip on the rack and pinion assembly and result in a loss of steering control.
The recall only affects models with Dynamic Power Steering – approximately 10,600 units. Here is a list of affected models:
- Commander DPS 1000
- Commander DPS 800R
- Commander LTD 1000
- Commander X 1000
- Commander XT 1000
- Commander XT 800R
BRP has received 29 incident reports, including two reports of minor injuries. Consumers are asked to stop using the affected UTVs and contact a Can-Am dealer to schedule an inspection and free repair.
Affected models, which were manufactured in Mexico, were sold at Can-Am dealers from April 2012 through April 2016 for between $12,600 and $20,100.
