Coastal Racing Tops Baja 1000 UTV Class

The Coastal Racing team of Scott Kiger, Mark Holz, RJ Anderson, Rob Utendorfer, Tyler King and Brian McLean raced to victory in the UTV Pro class at the 2013 Baja 1000.

In its first ever Baja 1000 appearance, the Coastal Racing team piloted its No. 1934 Polaris RZR XP 900 to the finish line in 27 hours, 16 minutes and 57 seconds – nearly 24 minutes quicker than the second place Jagged X team.

The runner-up position was enough for the No. 1932 Jagged X team (Matt Parks,Beau Baron, Alan Kleinemas, Jason Spiess, Eric Anderson and Keith Redstrom) to the first-ever SCORE UTV Pro class championship, thanks in large part to victories at the Baja 250 and Baja 500.

“Competing in the Baja 1000 is a huge undertaking and Polaris would like to congratulate all the Polaris teams for their successes in the race,” says Donna Beadle, race team manager for Polaris. “Being this was the first year of the Pro UTV class in SCORE, it was nice to see the UTVs show up and represent, and even nicer to see a Polaris Racing Team take home the first-ever title.”

Rounding out the Pro UTV class podium at the Baja 1000 was Cody Sappington and his No. 1904 Can-Am X-Team in their Can-Am Maverick – nearly two hours behind the winners.
