2013 AIMExpo: iON Air Pro 2 Camera

The action sports camera market is still relatively new and insanely competitive. That’s good news for consumers, who are benefitting from rapid product development and some pretty amazing technologies. One of the companies pushing the envelope is iON.

We had a chance to tinker with iON’s newest camera at the 2013 American International Motorcycle Expo in Orlando, Fla. – the Air Pro 2. As the name implies, this is the second generation of the iON Air Pro series.

The Air Pro 2 is available with or without Wi-Fi. But even if you choose to save some money and go without Wi-Fi, you can add it at a later date thanks to the iON PODZ system. It comes with a 14 mega pixel sensor and 180-degree field of view. According to iON, it is the highest megapixel POV camera in the marketplace.

After playing around with the Air Pro 2, we were impressed with how big and easy to operate the switches are. You get a distinctive vibration when you start or stop recording video, so you always know what’s going on.

Go ahead and get the Air Pro 2 wet, as it’s waterproof up to 30 feet without a case. Another great feature is the ability to attach an external microphone for better sound.

Video can be shot at 30 frames per second in 1080p, 960p and 720p. You can also shoot at 60 frames per second at 720. A five megapixel camera can capture single images, burst-shots and time lapse photos.
