ing down, Chad Wienen will try to secure his second straight title as the 2013 Mtn. Dew ATV Motocross National Championship Series, sanctioned by AMA, heads to the legendary RedBud MX in Buchanan, Mich. this weekend.
Wienen (Wienen Motorsports SSi Walsh Yamaha presented by Maxxis Tires & Team Vollmer ) won the 2012 National Championship after returning to action only nine months after undergoing back surgery in June of 2011. Since then, Wienen has bounced back to claim seven of the eight overall wins in 2013, where he holds a commanding lead over the rest of the field heading into Round 9.
Nick DeNoble has finished consistently inside the top 10 all season long but the Walsh Race Craft rider has yet to land a podium finish. After placing just outside the top five at Round 8, DeNoble will look to secure his first podium finish at RedBud.
BCS Can-Am’s Josh Creamer set his sights on the podium at Unadilla where he ultimately captured second overall for the weekend. After taking the moto 2 win at Round 8, Creamer will head to RedBud with considerable momentum where he looks to secure his first overall win of the season.
Veteran John Natalie proved once again that he is an overall contender after battling through the field to earn a third place overall at Round 8. With only two rounds left in the championship, the MotoSport.com Motoworks DWT-backed rider is now hungrier than ever to finish in the center of the podium.
For only the second time in 2013, Wienen Motorsports SSi Walsh Yamaha presented by Maxxis Tires & Team Vollmer rider Thomas Brown finished off the overall podium last round with fourth place. Brown has earned a consistent string of podium finishes this season, where he holds second place in the championship standings heading into this weekend’s penultimate round.
Janssen Motorsports FSI rider Cody Janssen will be making his pro class debut this weekend at RedBud after securing the 2013 A-class National Championship at Round 7. Janssen completed his final race in the A class at Unadilla where he will compete in the pro class for the remainder of the 2013 season.
The pro riders race on Saturday as part of a full schedule of amateur racing, including classes for Youth, Women and Veteran riders. Amateurs will practice on Friday and race on Saturday and Sunday, while Pros race on Saturday. Tickets on Saturday are $20 for spectators ($10 for ages 6-11), and admission includes full pro-pit access and an autograph session.
