Factory Yamaha-backed rider shines in Round 3
Demaree Farms in Cross Plains, Ind. played host to Round 3 of the Indiana XC Racing (IXCR) Series on May 18.
Thanks to rain and wind in the days leading up to the race, the seven-mile track had a good mix of dust and mud. Nearly 300 bike and ATV racers showed up on race day ready to ride.
Factory Yamaha-backed Donald Ockerman took home the overall ATV win, followed by Craig Bowman. Jonathan Fugate won the A Class, ahead of Moto-Xperts rider Wesley Fruits.
Fred Marley rode his S.I.C.C. Racing Honda to a first-place finish in the B 16-25 Class, while Mike Goss was tops in 26+ B Class. Justin Kirchhoff won the 16-21 C Class and Gary Stallard bested the field in the 22-29 C Class. Mike Muskopf has really turned up the dial since switching over to the Honda and he built up even more momentum with another victory in the 30+ C Class.
Ryan Edmondson won the First Year Racer Class and Garret Mercer finished out front in the Sport Class. Brad Morrison has a new Raptor 250 and he proved its worth by winning the Sport-Lite Class. Steve Zapfe won the very competitive 30+ Vet Class and David Robinson won the 40+ Senior Class. Josh Brewer took his WKC Powersports Utility to the front of the pack and won his class along with Chris Sigman in the Utility Unlimited Class.
In the bike race, Jeff Cregg ran 8 laps on his Suzuki to take the win in the Pro Class with John Robbins only a minute and four seconds behind him. Robert Wilkerson won the A Class and Jordan Johns did the same in the A-Lites Class.
Jeff Ramsey came up from the Bluegrass state and beat everyone in the B Class. In the C Lites Class Jesse Ford took the win and is looking for a championship this year. Zach Halcomb was the winner of the C Class.
Joe Stanley now holds the points lead in the Vet 30+ A Class and took his second win of the year at the Farm. Vet 30+ B was won by David Dunnuck and Sr 40+ A saw another Suzuki take a win by Robert Kirchner followed by Joe Halcomb. Kevin Kruer and Marvin Popp did work in the Sr 40+ B and Super Senior 50+ Classes by overcoming their competitors and collecting 30 more points each.
The next round of the IXCR will be held in Bedford, Ind.. Look for it to tighten up next round as the trees will get closer and the point battles will do the same.
