Pomeroy tops field in Pro Unlimited, Stowell wins Pro-Am
Veteran ATV racers Matt Pomeroy and James Stowell recorded wins in the Pro divisions on May 18, as Rock Maple Racing (RMR) completed Round 2 of its 11-race 2008 Can-Am Series schedule at the Twister Valley Sports Complex in Fort Plain, NY.
Pomeroy held off Stowell and Brent Miller to claim the Pro Unlimited final. Luis Marois and Brian Daigle rounded out the top five.
Stowell, however, picked up a win of his own in the Pro Am class. Pomeroy finished second and Miller again finished third, while Marois and Max Weaver were fourth and fifth.
In other action on Sunday, Steffan Daeger picked up a victory in A Unlimited. In a hotly contest B Unlimited final Nathan Lashway rode his Yamaha to victory, holding off the hot Polaris machines of Brett Bender and Bruce Gaspardi. Snocross fans know the names Bender and Gaspardi quite well – Bender is a top contender on the national snocross scene while Gaspardi has raced with Rock Maple since he was old enough to sit on a sled.
Bender bounced back to win the final for 18-24 year olds, with Glynn Desilva and Eric White filling out the podium.
George Layton put in another solid performance in the Plus 35 final. The veteran out-gunned David Porter for top honors on his well-prepared Honda. Porter found redemption as he held off Joe Mason to win the Open Amateur final.
Dale Robinson powered his Honda to victory in a talent-filled final for Production Lites. He held off Curtis Gillilan and Dylan Whitmore for top honors.
Other ATV winners Sunday include Craig Synenki (Plus 25); Jordan Storrs (0-90cc Limited); Derrik Mann (0-90cc Unlimited); Ethan Lehmer (0-70cc Unlimited); Richard Murtaugh (0-50cc Senior, 0-50cc Junior & 0-70cc Modified), and Alex Parker (0-90cc Modified).
In Quad-Terrain Challenge action Sunday, Jamie Bougher earned a victory in the Open final. Alex Layn and Adam Fay finished second and third respectively. Paul Calderwood and Liz Storti completed the top five in an exciting outing for the 4×4 gang.
