We received a phone call the other day from a very pleasant guy who wanted us to write about his new product. This happens from time to time, but we have to admit that this one piqued our interest.
The product in question is called ATVAIR and we were told it can be used to fill up your tires with your exhaust. Our reaction was a mix of curiosity and skepticism.
ATVAIR is really just an eight-inch hose with a rubber cone on one end and a metal filler valve on the other. After you put your machine in neutral and apply the brake you are supposed to connect the filler valve to your tire valve stem and gently insert the rubber cone into the muffler.
It was at this point that we got a little skeptical because if you completely block off the exhaust you’ll kill the engine. The product description, however, says you have to allow some exhaust to escape. We’re not sure how you can do that and still have enough pressure in the host to inflate a tire – up to a claimed 30 PSI no less. The manufacturer, though, promises there will still be plenty of pressure to fill up a flat tire in a minute or two.
